Benefits of Dandelion Greens

Dandelion greens are a confusing vegetable to many people. Aren’t they a weed? Why yes! They are a common weed with powerful health benefits.

These tender greens are full of calcium, iron, Vitamin A and TONS of Vitamin K for strong bones and blood clotting. KyV Farm, organic dandelion greens are also an awesome PREBIOTIC!

A prebiotic is an important part of what’s called your microbiome – or the balance of good and bad bacteria in the body.

Our society is so concerned with bacteria, but certain types can help protect us against disease and aid in digestion. This is why we consume foods and supplements with probiotics – full of the good guys.

The prebiotics are the foods that feed the probiotics.

Foods such as raw bananas, avocados and yes….dandelion greens are all great examples. A great way to enjoy these prebiotic foods is together in a smoothie.  I love making breakfast smoothies because they help me get a serving or two of vegetables in, first thing in the morning.

Try a version of my cool cleansing smoothie by blending frozen, chopped bananas, a handful of dandelion greens, half an avocado, a handful of kale and a cup of almond or coconut milk. I think you’ll be surprised at how delicious it is.
